Someday

Melissa kissed him back. How was she supposed to go on without him?

Michael sighed as he reluctly let go of her before picking up his bag.

Samantha sighed and curled up against her mother. She didn't want Michael to go.

"I love you two." Michael said before turning and leaving, he bit his lip sadly as he left the apartment and slow made his way outside.

Samantha crawled over and sat in her seat by her bedroom window and watched, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Michael looked back one last time before he climbed into the waiting car, the car that would take him away from his family.

Someday, somehow I'm gonna make it alright but not right now. I know you're wondering when.

~Present Day~

Samantha awoke from her dream to find that she'd been crying. It was just a dream wasn't it? Then why did it seem so real? That's when it hit her. It wasn't a dream, but a memory. For years she'd blocked out the memory of the day her father left. It was easier to pretend he'd never been there then to remember how badly it hurt to watch him walk away. She bit her lip to stop it from trembling as she started to cry again.

"Sammy Jay?" Michael asked as he came into the room "Honey whats wrong?"

"I remembered," Samantha sniffled. "I hadn't thought about it for years and all the sudden I remembered......."

"Remembered what Sammy Jay?" Michael asked softly.

Samantha looked up with teary blue eyes and replied. "The day you left."

Michael's eyes teared up at the painful memories "Sammy Jay..."

"It hurt daddy!" Samantha cried. "It hurt so bad I convinced myself you'd never been there at all so I wouldn't have to remember how bad it felt!"

"I know it did honey and i'm sorry for doing that to you and your momma." Michael said softly.

"You never told me why," Samantha said softly.

Michael bit his lip "You should know why." he said softly.

Samantha nodded. "Some good it did," she muttered softly.

"He promised he would leave you two alone if i worked for him, he said two catlings were nothing compared to having one of the best doctors around working solely for him." Michael said softly.

"Well he sure didn't leave us alone did he?" Samantha muttered, wiping her eyes.

"I'm sorry i shouldn't of left but i hoped he'd keep his promise, i didn't know how else to keep you safe, the day before he offered the deal i had almost lost you to a hunter, i didn't know how to protect my family."

Samantha didn't respond. She didn't want apologies or explanations, she just wanted her father, wanted him to hold her like he used to, to promise she'd never have to hurt like that again.

Michael closed his eyes as he hugged her, he had lost so much time with his family.

Samantha hugged him tightly. "Please don't ever leave me again."

Michael hugged her close "I pro..." he was stopped in mid sentance by a evil laugh "Hello Michael."

Samantha whimpered and burrowed close to her father.
